The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has released the Draft Environmental Impact Study (DEIS) for the Pearl River Basin Mississippi Federal Flood Risk Management Project. This marks the initiation of a 45-day public review period ending on July 22, 2024.
The DEIS and its associated documents are available online for public access. During this review period, the USACE will conduct public meetings to gather input and comments on the DEIS. A virtual meeting is tentatively scheduled for the week of June 24, 2024, with specific details to be provided on the project page.
In-person public meetings are also scheduled as follows:
- Wednesday, July 10, at 2:00PM – Mississippi Public Broadcasting Auditorium, Jackson, MS
- Wednesday, July 10, at 6:00PM – Mississippi Trade Mart, Jackson, MS
- Thursday, July 11, at 11:00AM – Slidell Municipal Auditorium, Slidell, LA
- Thursday, July 11, at 6:00PM – Monticello Civic Center, Monticello, MS
Public comments on the DEIS can be submitted verbally or via written comment cards at the in-person sessions, through email, or by mail to the specified address. All significant comments received will be compiled and included in a Public Involvement Report, with necessary changes incorporated into the final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The final EIS and its appendices will be published in the Federal Register later in 2024, along with a Record of Decision from the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works (ASA(CW)).
