India’s merchandise exports recorded strong growth in the April–June quarter of 2026, rising 15.9% year on year, or $17.75 billion. ASEAN markets accounted for roughly one-third of the increase in export value, highlighting the region’s growing role in supporting India’s expanding trade activity and strengthening economic connections across Asia.
The performance reflects deeper trade ties between India and Southeast Asia, with ASEAN emerging as an increasingly important market for Indian exporters. Stronger regional demand and closer commercial relationships are creating new opportunities across manufacturing, logistics, transportation and supply-chain networks.
However, part of the increase was influenced by higher crude oil prices, which raised the value of petroleum-related trade. Even with this factor, the broader export performance points to continued resilience in India’s external trade and growing integration with regional supply chains.
As India continues to expand its export base, stronger connections with ASEAN could help diversify markets, improve trade routes and support greater participation in regional and global supply chains.
