in Agriculture and Food Trade

Yemen’s July 2026 market data highlights the continued importance of food imports, agricultural production and trade flows in maintaining the country’s food supply chain.

Staple food prices remained broadly stable during July, with rice and wheat flour largely unchanged, sunflower oil increasing 2% and kidney beans declining 1%. The Minimum Food Basket was recorded at YER 132,678, providing an important indicator for monitoring household food access and market conditions.

Wheat and wheat flour imports remained an important part of the supply network. Recorded imports declined 19% from June but were 95% higher than July 2025 and 59% above the three year average, demonstrating continued demand for imported staple foods.

Fuel trade also remains closely connected to food distribution and agricultural activity. Recorded fuel imports increased 15% month on month in July, while diesel prices decreased 4%. Reliable fuel availability supports transportation, agricultural operations and the movement of food between markets.

The exchange rate in government controlled areas remained around YER 1,555 per US dollar, providing greater short term stability for import transactions. Agricultural labor and livestock markets also continued to influence purchasing power and rural supply networks.

The July indicators highlight the importance of coordinated food imports, agricultural production, transportation and market monitoring in maintaining efficient and responsive food supply chains.
