Oracle has launched role-based artificial intelligence (AI) agents as part of its cloud supply chain and manufacturing suite, aiming to enhance efficiency and reduce the time spent on administrative tasks.
According to a press release issued on January 30, 2025, the new AI-powered solution is designed to automate routine processes, allowing businesses to focus more on strategic initiatives within their supply chain operations.
“Supply chain professionals often allocate significant time to administrative tasks such as data analysis, policy reviews, and order processing, which can limit overall productivity,” said Chris Leone, executive vice president of applications development at Oracle.
The new AI agents are designed to alleviate the administrative load by streamlining workflows and automating repetitive tasks, thereby enhancing accuracy, decision-making, and overall supply chain agility.
The AI agents can assist procurement professionals in speeding up the creation, processing, and fulfillment of purchase requisitions. For example, the agents provide insights into procurement policies, suggest product recommendations, and help users identify necessary information to complete a requisition efficiently.
Manufacturing and production operators will benefit from AI agents as well. The agents can ensure that operations comply with procedural guidelines and safety standards. Additionally, suppliers can access company-specific policies and guidelines more effectively, thereby boosting productivity.
AI agents differ from robotic process automation (RPA) in their ability to adapt to changing circumstances. While RPA operates under predefined rules, AI agents can understand context, make decisions, and adjust their approach autonomously. This adaptability allows AI agents to handle tasks that may otherwise require human intervention or reprogramming in RPA systems.
For example, an RPA chatbot on a website may only provide accurate responses for commonly asked customer queries. However, an AI agent trained on advanced language models like GPT-4 would offer more dynamic and context-aware responses, improving the overall customer experience.
Oracle’s introduction of AI agents marks a step forward in automating supply chain tasks and increasing operational efficiency, positioning companies to become more responsive and better equipped to handle evolving business demands.
