Chomps has announced plans to open a new 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Mexico, Missouri, slated for 2025. This expansion is part of a strategic partnership with Western Smokehouse Partners, a company specializing in co-manufactured and private label protein snacks. The collaboration between Chomps and Western Smokehouse Partners began in 2016 with the opening of their first joint facility in Greentop, Missouri. Chomps also operates manufacturing facilities in Idaho, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Virginia, with additional partnership sites in Greentop and Idaho.
The new Mexico facility will be one of Chomps’ largest and will be dedicated exclusively to producing Chomps’ products. Founded in 2012 by Pete Maldonado and Rashid Ali, Chomps focuses on on-the-go protein snacks, including beef, turkey, venison, and chomplings sticks, all free from hormones, antibiotics, and added sugar. Pete Maldonado, co-founder of Chomps, stated, “This new manufacturing facility represents a major milestone for our company, enabling us to scale production to meet the increasing demand for our products. Our continued partnership with Western Smokehouse Partners has been essential to our growth, and we are excited to further strengthen this relationship with a facility tailored to our specific needs.”
In January 2022, Chomps secured an $80 million minority investment from private equity firm Stride Consumer Partners, marking the company’s first venture into private equity. In March 2024, Chomps was listed among Bain & Co.’s “insurgent brands” to watch in the food and beverage industry, alongside other notable brands such as Chobani Inc., Impossible Foods, and Kodiak.
