A 38-year-old woman, reportedly a tourist, was apprehended in April on suspicion of shoplifting luxury goods from shops within the transit area of Singapore’s Changi Airport. The arrest came two months after the alleged theft occurred.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) disclosed that the incident was brought to their attention on February 21. The theft involved items from two shops, including a belt valued at over $800 and cosmetics totaling nearly $200.
Through a combination of ground inquiries and surveillance footage from closed-circuit television cameras, authorities managed to identify the suspect. However, she had already departed Singapore on a flight shortly after the incident, eluding capture at the time.
The woman was eventually arrested upon her return to Singapore in April. Subsequent investigations revealed that she allegedly committed another theft on the day of her arrest, taking cosmetics worth over $400 from Changi Airport.
She is scheduled to appear in court on April 16 to face charges of theft. If found guilty, she could potentially face a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment or a fine. The case serves as a reminder of the vigilance required to maintain security within airport premises.
