Ukrainian apple exporters are adapting quickly to disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz, using alternative routes to keep fresh produce moving into key Gulf markets.
Shipments are now being redirected through Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, before continuing by road to Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the UAE. Exporters are also testing fully land-based refrigerated trucking from Ukraine to Dubai.
While these alternatives help maintain market access, transportation costs for a standard 20-ton shipment have risen by several thousand dollars.
The disruption highlights the importance of flexible routing, cold-chain reliability and supply chain resilience for fresh produce exporters. It also shows how quickly geopolitical disruptions at major trade corridors can influence delivery costs and market competitiveness.
