The 14th edition of the Source India Electronics and Supply Chain Exhibition, organized by the Electronics Industries Association of India (ELCINA), was inaugurated at the Chennai Trade Centre on Tuesday. The event highlights the growing role of the electronics sector in the region’s industrial landscape.
Arun Roy, Secretary of the Industries Department, noted that the State has a strong manufacturing workforce and contributes over 13% of the country’s manufacturing gross value added (GVA). With a goal of achieving a $1 trillion economy, the State, which accounts for 20% of the nation’s electronics manufacturing output, aims to grow at a faster pace than the national average.
Mr. Roy highlighted the significant increase in electronics exports, which rose from $1.60 billion in 2021 to $9.56 billion in 2023-24. He emphasized the need to enhance components manufacturing and value addition by aligning with global supply chains. The State also plans to leverage its well-established industrial ecosystem, particularly in the automotive and electronics sectors, to drive further growth.
Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary of the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, noted the steady progress in strengthening the electronics supply chain over the past decades. He stated that electronics production contributes 20% to the country’s export value, with mobile manufacturing and exports accounting for 50% of this share. To further improve the supply chain network, the Central government has extended the Gati Shakti initiative to electronics manufacturers.
The event also featured insights from industry leaders and government officials, highlighting the importance of innovation, collaboration, and policy support in advancing the electronics sector.
