The Sindi Multimodal Logistics Park, a major infrastructure project supported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is set to begin operations early next year. Known as the Sindi dry port, the facility is expected to initially focus on exports to Bangladesh, utilizing the riverine route to streamline transportation and reduce costs.
DeltaCorp, the developer managing the park under an agreement with Maharashtra Multimodal Logistics Park Limited (MMLPM), is seeking approval to begin operations with existing infrastructure ahead of the official Commercial Operation Date (COD). This early launch is intended to kick-start activities and provide immediate benefits.
Initial operations are anticipated to center on exports to Bangladesh, with goods transported by rail to Haldia in West Bengal and then shipped via river vessels. This riverine route offers a more efficient alternative to congested rail and road corridors, helping to reduce transportation expenses and improve export competitiveness.
Plans are also in motion to utilize the park for domestic automobile transport, including the use of specialized closed containers designed for secure vehicle movement. Sindi’s central location is expected to make it a key hub for distributing automobiles and other goods within India.
The logistics park is expected to support the export of a wide range of goods, including Vidarbha’s cotton, transmission towers, automobile parts, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers. Additionally, perishable commodities such as oranges and onions, along with tractors, are expected to feature prominently in trade activities.
Inaugurated in December of last year, the park has already generated significant interest from regional businesses. According to logistics businessman Pyare Khan, trade with Bangladesh has resumed, creating new opportunities for the facility. Shiv Kumar Rao, a logistics entrepreneur and former president of the Vidarbha Economic Development (VED) Council, noted that the park’s operations could centralize cargo handling, giving the Vidarbha region a substantial economic boost.
With its operational launch approaching, the Sindi Multimodal Logistics Park is set to enhance trade efficiency, benefiting both regional and international commerce.
