The Philippine government has introduced Hotline 1326, a dedicated platform for citizens to report scams, deepfakes, and other cybercrimes. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC).
The hotline aims to provide the public with a direct channel to report fraudulent activities, including deceptive online content and digitally manipulated media. By dialing 1326, individuals can alert authorities to potential cyber threats, facilitating prompt investigation and response.
In addition to the hotline, the CICC is developing an application designed to detect deepfakes—synthetic media where a person’s likeness is replaced with someone else’s. This tool is intended to assist in identifying and mitigating the spread of manipulated content. The application will be distributed to accredited partners, including independent fact-checkers, to enhance the verification process and maintain the integrity of information disseminated to the public.
The launch of Hotline 1326 reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens against cyber threats and ensuring a secure digital environment. By providing accessible reporting mechanisms and developing advanced detection tools, authorities aim to strengthen the country’s defenses against the evolving landscape of cybercrime.
