Cereal Partners UK (CPUK), the manufacturer behind Nestlé Cereals, has acquired its inaugural eHGV as part of its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
The electric truck, manufactured by Volvo, will operate from CPUK’s facility in Staverton, Wiltshire. It will primarily serve to transport stock from CPUK’s distribution center in Melksham, Wiltshire to nearby customers and facilitate pallet movement within the Staverton site.
To facilitate the use of this electric vehicle (EV), CPUK has installed a 160kW DC EV charger at the distribution center, capable of charging the Volvo eHGV in two hours.
Nestlé UK and Ireland have pledged to halve their emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. CPUK, on the other hand, aims for a 20% reduction in emissions by 2025, a target it is on track to meet this year.
Patryk Zmaczyński, Head of Supply Chain & Procurement at CPUK, commented: “The acquisition of our first electric truck represents a significant step in our journey towards achieving net zero emissions by 2050. We have been early adopters of electric vehicles and continue to invest in the technology to reduce our environmental impact.”
In addition to electric vehicles, Nestlé UK and Ireland are exploring other avenues to decarbonize transport operations, including trucks fueled by liquefied natural gas (bio-LNG) and a double-stacked rail freight trial launched in August 2023 for deliveries to Tesco. This trial aims to reduce emissions by transporting more goods in fewer trips.
To further enhance sustainability across its supply chain, CPUK introduced the Nestlé Wheat Plan in 2022. Described as an innovative sustainable farming initiative, it partners with British wheat farmers to promote the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices.
