HÀ NỘI — The government plans to reduce the number of civil servants and public employees receiving salaries from the State budget by at least 20 percent as part of an effort to restructure and improve efficiency within the political system, according to Minister of Internal Affairs Phạm Thị Thanh Trà.
In a document sent to key government and Party offices, Minister Trà emphasized the importance of clear communication to civil servants and employees, particularly those affected by the restructuring. She also highlighted the need for recognition of individuals and groups that contribute to streamlining efforts and improving the quality of the workforce.
The restructuring process is part of the implementation of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW, which focuses on renewing the political system for better efficiency. Relevant agencies have been tasked with developing specific criteria for the restructuring, ensuring that the reduction in staff does not negatively impact the performance of government agencies.
Weekly reports on the progress of restructuring, including any challenges encountered, are to be submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
On December 31, 2024, the government issued Decree 178/2024/ND-CP, outlining policies related to the restructuring of political system organizations. These include provisions for early retirement, voluntary resignations, and measures for officials transitioning to new roles.
The government has also directed ministries and provincial People’s Committees to conduct comprehensive reviews of staff quality, identifying individuals who will be subject to the streamlining plan. — VNS
