MSC is reorganizing its Asia-Europe and transpacific services to launch a new Europe-Asia-North America pendulum service. This initiative aims to optimize capacity across its network.
The new service, named Swan-Sentosa, will combine MSC’s existing Asia-Europe Swan service with its transpacific Asia-US west coast Sentosa service. Currently, the Sentosa service is linked to MSC’s India-Far East Shikra service in an India-Asia-North America loop.
According to Alphaliner, the Swan-Sentosa service will deploy 20 vessels with capacities ranging from 8,000 to 19,500 TEU. It is scheduled to begin with the departure of the 19,200 TEU MSC Sveva from Qingdao on July 2.
The service will follow this port rotation: Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Felixstowe, Antwerp, Hamburg, Gdansk, Gdynia, Klaipeda, Bremerhaven, Antwerp, Singapore, Laem Chabang, Cai Mep, Busan, Long Beach, Oakland, Busan, and back to Qingdao.
A round trip for the service is expected to take 20 weeks to complete.
Alphaliner noted that this reorganization would make the Shikra service a standalone string again.
“The launch of the new pendulum service will result in the conclusion of the current Far East-India-California ‘Sentosa-Shikra’ service, which began in September 2023 by merging the ‘Sentosa’ and ‘Shikra’ loops. MSC will continue the Far East-India leg as a standalone ‘Shikra’ service, which will have a seven-week rotation,” Alphaliner reported.
