Dalmia Bharat Limited (DBL), one of India’s leading cement manufacturers, has commenced commercial production at its new cement grinding unit in Lanka, Assam. The facility adds 2.4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to the company’s capacity, bringing its total cement production in Northeast India to 8 MTPA and its nationwide capacity to 49 MTPA.
The expansion is part of DBL’s planned investment of ₹3,642 crore, announced in May 2023, aimed at strengthening its market presence and meeting increasing regional demand. Additionally, an integrated clinker unit with a capacity of 3.6 MTPA is in the final stages of commissioning and is expected to be operational by the second quarter of FY26.
Commenting on the development, Puneet Dalmia, Managing Director & CEO of Dalmia Bharat Limited, stated, “The commissioning of this 2.4 MTPA capacity makes us the largest cement manufacturer in Northeast India. With growing infrastructure development in the region, this expansion will support the rising demand for cement. We remain committed to partnering with states on key projects.”
Dalmia Bharat has maintained a strong presence in the Northeast for over a decade, operating four cement plants—three in Assam and one in Meghalaya. The company has contributed to significant infrastructure projects, including the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge, Sela Tunnel, and Dhubri-Phulbari Bridge. Additionally, its corporate initiatives focus on skill development, community welfare, and environmental conservation as part of its long-term sustainability goals.
