Air Liquide, a French industrial gas supplier, has issued a €500 million green bond aimed at financing or refinancing key energy transition and sustainable projects, specifically in low-carbon hydrogen, carbon capture, and low-carbon air gases. The company announced that it has successfully raised €500 million with a 10-year maturity at a yield of 3.466%. This transaction was conducted under Air Liquide’s Euro Medium Term Note (EMTN) program and follows the company’s inaugural green bond issue in 2021.
Jérôme Pelletan, Group Chief Financial Officer, stated that the success of this second green bond issuance reflects investor confidence in Air Liquide’s ability to develop technologies and pioneer projects that support the decarbonization of its activities and assist customers in reducing their carbon footprint. Pelletan emphasized that this effort aligns with Air Liquide’s strategic plan, ADVANCE, which integrates financial and extra-financial performance goals. He noted that the company’s expertise in low-carbon hydrogen, carbon capture, and low-carbon air gases contributes significantly to the transition to a low-carbon society.
Air Liquide is engaged in numerous sustainable energy projects and partnerships. One recent collaboration is with Dutch infrastructure provider Vopak. At the beginning of 2024, the two parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the joint development of low-carbon ammonia supply chains in Singapore. This project includes the potential development of ammonia cracking facilities, ammonia storage, and handling infrastructure at Vopak’s Banyan terminal, as well as the distribution of low-carbon hydrogen through a hydrogen pipeline network.
This collaboration aims to support Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy by advancing hydrogen technologies with high commercial readiness to establish low-carbon hydrogen supply chains.
