Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP) has announced the launch of a new Boeing 747-400ERF freighter service, operated by Martinair, connecting Amsterdam Schiphol Airport with Hong Kong via Dubai. This service marks the return of KLM/Martinair freighters to Hong Kong after nearly nine years, aiming to enhance cargo operations and provide increased flexibility and capacity for global customers.
The inaugural flight is scheduled for September 19, 2024. Initially, the service will operate three times a week, with plans to increase to four weekly flights starting October 27, 2024. Each flight will offer a capacity of 110 tonnes, facilitating efficient cargo movement between key international hubs and providing a range of onward connections to the Americas and Africa through the Amsterdam Schiphol hub.
As part of this network expansion, some existing routes in Latin America will be suspended. However, freighter services to Bogotá will continue three times a week via Miami. AFKLMP Cargo will maintain its commitment to serving the Caribbean and Latin America through its extensive belly network, offering 145 weekly flights to 24 destinations to ensure reliable cargo services in these regions.
Adriaan den Heijer, EVP, Cargo, Air France-KLM and Managing Director of Martinair, commented on the growing demand for air freight solutions in the East Asian market, particularly within the e-commerce segment. The introduction of this new Boeing 747 freighter service is intended to enhance main deck capacity and expand connectivity in Asia, providing more options and flexibility for customers and supporting their evolving needs.
