The Green Supply Chain Transformation Forum, themed “Carbon Co-explore, Chain the Future Shore,” was held at the Baowu Carbon Neutrality Industrial Park in Shanghai as part of Shanghai Climate Week 2026. The event brought together businesses, industry organizations and stakeholders to explore strategies for advancing sustainability across global supply chains.
Co-hosted by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and Alibaba Group, the forum convened representatives from the solar and energy storage, electric vehicle and technology sectors. Discussions focused on value chain decarbonization, overseas compliance requirements and the role of cross-border cooperation in supporting sustainable supply chain development.
Participants highlighted that green supply chain transformation is evolving from company-level environmental initiatives into broader, coordinated efforts across industries. This shift toward cross-sector collaboration is increasingly shaping competitiveness, operational resilience and long-term growth across global value chains, particularly as companies respond to changing regulatory frameworks and sustainability expectations.
In opening remarks, WBCSD Executive Vice President Dominic Waughray said the organization would deepen cooperation with the Global Solar and Storage Sustainability Alliance (GSSA) to jointly promote green transformation across the solar and energy storage value chain. The initiative aims to strengthen collaboration between companies, encourage consistent sustainability practices and support transparency across production and procurement processes.
During the forum, GSSA also signed a memorandum of understanding with EARTH & LIFE SYMBIO. The agreement is intended to enhance knowledge sharing, responsible supply chain governance and cooperation on sustainable development practices. Organizers said the partnership would support greater alignment in environmental standards and improve coordination among industry participants.
A roundtable dialogue featured representatives from the electric vehicle sector, including Changan, Geely Holding, BYD, Chery, NIO and XPeng. Solar and storage companies such as Tongwei, JinkoSolar and CNGR Advanced Material also took part. Participants shared perspectives on managing compliance requirements in overseas markets while maintaining operational efficiency and supporting business sustainability goals.
Discussions also addressed the growing complexity of cross-border supply chains, including the need for standardized data reporting, transparency in sourcing and improved coordination between suppliers and manufacturers. Participants noted that digital tools are increasingly being used to track emissions, monitor performance and strengthen accountability across value chains.
The forum introduced a multi-stakeholder dialogue mechanism linking industry organizations, international platforms and businesses. The mechanism aims to facilitate ongoing collaboration, promote shared standards and encourage the exchange of best practices in green supply chain development. Organizers said the initiative could help companies align sustainability goals with operational strategies.
As part of Shanghai Climate Week 2026, the event underscored the importance of cross-regional cooperation, mutual recognition of data frameworks and consistent responsibility standards. Participants also emphasized the role of digital technologies in translating climate-related targets into measurable outcomes and supporting long-term commercial resilience.
The forum concluded with calls for continued collaboration across industries to accelerate green supply chain transformation and support sustainable growth across global markets.
