ASTANA – The European Union (EU) has expressed its support for Kazakhstan’s efforts to establish itself as a significant transportation and logistics center. Henrik Hololei, an Adviser of the European Commission, conveyed this message during a meeting with Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Nazira Nurbayeva on October 19, as reported by the ministry’s press service.
Hololei mentioned that the EU is willing to collaborate with Kazakhstan by offering participation in infrastructure projects and facilitating private investments to assist in achieving this goal.
Both parties explored opportunities to diversify transit routes between Asia and Europe. They focused on leveraging Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics capabilities, enhancing harmonization in the transport sector across Central Asia and the Caucasus, and promoting aviation cooperation.
Nurbayeva highlighted the importance of executing significant railway projects and constructing new logistics facilities to enhance Kazakhstan’s competitiveness.
In their discussions, they delved into measures aimed at improving transport connectivity between Central Asia and the EU, as suggested in a study conducted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This study identified optimal transport links between Central Asia and the EU Trans-European Transport Network.”
