The federal cabinet has approved a significant expansion plan to enhance the operational activities at Gwadar Port. According to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, 50% of import consignments of wheat, sugar, and fertilizer will now be directed through Gwadar Port. This move is part of efforts to boost the port’s capacity and support regional economic development in Balochistan.
In line with these objectives, the cabinet also aims to increase export volumes through Gwadar. A subcommittee, chaired by the Prime Minister, will monitor and report quarterly on import and export activities at the port.
Additionally, the cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sri Lanka for the joint issuance of a Commemorative Postal Stamp, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Cabinet Committee on Sugar Exports reported that timely export decisions have stabilized sugar prices and ensured fair compensation for sugarcane farmers.
The cabinet also reconstituted the Board of Directors for the Korangi Fish Harbour Authority in Karachi to ensure provincial representation. Furthermore, Muhammad Yaqoob was appointed as the Federal Inspector of Drugs for Balochistan, and amendments were made to the Planning Commission’s resolution regarding salary scales for key officials.
