The U.S. is set to resume imports of Uzbek melons after resolving technical issues related to their export. Representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed this development during discussions with Uzbek officials. The Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture has organized advanced training for domestic laboratory specialists in the U.S. This initiative includes plans for American experts to visit laboratories in Uzbekistan’s Aral Sea region and the Fergana Valley for knowledge exchange.
From January to July 2024, Uzbekistan exported 23,300 tons of melons valued at nearly $11 million. Major importing countries included Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Latvia, with smaller quantities sent to Germany. Uzbekistan’s total export value for the first seven months of 2024 reached $792.3 million, marking a 17.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to the State Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan.
