HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam has officially opened its market to British live seafood products, as announced by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) on April 1.
The new agreement is expected to generate over GBP20 million (approximately US$26 million) in revenue for the UK seafood sector over the next five years.
With the highest per capita seafood consumption in Southeast Asia, averaging 37kg per year, Việt Nam represents a promising market for high-quality British seafood. Coastal communities across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales are anticipated to benefit from the new export opportunities.
British seafood exports to Việt Nam experienced a 40 percent increase in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the previous year. The deal will allow Vietnamese consumers to access fresh, high-quality seafood from the UK, including products such as lobster and brown crab.
