NEOM has announced a joint venture with Samsung C&T Corp. to advance construction automation technology in Saudi Arabia, with an initial investment of over SR1.3 billion ($350 million). The partnership aims to streamline construction processes through robotics and automation, focusing on efficiency, sustainability, and innovation.
The collaboration will prioritize automating the assembly of rebar cages using advanced robotic welding and tying techniques. These cages are essential in reinforced concrete structures, ensuring infrastructure durability. The new technology is expected to reduce manual labor by up to 80%, cut assembly costs by up to 40%, minimize material waste, and enhance safety and quality standards.
“This initiative aligns with NEOM’s sustainability principles, driving innovation not only in what we build but in how we build it,” said Majid Mufti, CEO of the NEOM Investment Fund.
The agreement also includes plans to establish regional factories for rebar cage assembly, which will generate over 2,000 skilled local jobs. This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s vision to foster advanced industries and build a resilient, globally competitive economy.
Bandar Ashrour, NEOM’s sector head of design and construction, noted, “This collaboration accelerates modern construction methods and bolsters local talent development, further positioning NEOM as a leader in advanced manufacturing and construction.”
The joint venture with Samsung C&T is part of NEOM’s broader strategy to integrate emerging technologies into its infrastructure projects, including THE LINE and other key developments. Hojin Jung, president of Samsung C&T’s new business division, remarked, “Together, we aim to redefine construction practices with cutting-edge robotics and automation solutions.”
This partnership cements NEOM’s commitment to revolutionizing construction and highlights its leadership in integrating innovative technologies into large-scale infrastructure projects.
