Tasmanian cherry growers showcased their produce at Asia Fruit Logistica, one of the world’s largest fruit trade events, held in Hong Kong over the past week. The event, which brings together exhibitors from 43 countries and attracts over 13,000 visitors annually, provides a platform for exporters to build relationships with potential buyers and distributors. Premier Jeremy Rockliff emphasized the importance of Tasmania’s presence at such events, highlighting the opportunity for the state’s growers to display their high-quality produce.
“This event offers a great opportunity for Tasmania’s hardworking growers to present their products and demonstrate the exceptional quality the state delivers,” Rockliff said. Tasmania’s fruit industry contributes around $400 million annually, with cherries as the largest export, valued at $48.28 million. Minister for Primary Industries Jane Howlett reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the industry’s growth. “Expanding into new markets is vital for the continued success of Tasmania’s fruit industry, and our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future includes a $600,000 investment to support Fruit Growers Tasmania in expanding its trade presence,” Howlett stated.
The Tasmanian government also assisted companies attending the event through its Accelerating Trade Grant Program, providing support for local businesses to explore new opportunities.
