A major U.S. retailer is seeing renewed sales momentum as a merchandising refresh, store improvements and stronger digital fulfillment contribute to increased customer activity.
Comparable sales rose 3.8% in the second quarter, while overall net sales increased 5.3% to $26.54 billion. Physical-store sales grew 2.7%, while digital comparable sales advanced 8.7%, supported by increased same-day delivery activity.
The retailer also reported growth across all six major merchandise categories, with particularly strong performance in consumer electronics, toys, books, gaming products, beauty, food and beverages.
More than half of its back-to-school merchandise was newly introduced this year, reflecting an effort to align product assortments with changing consumer demand. Store modernization is also progressing, with more than 100 full-scale remodels underway.
From a supply chain perspective, the results highlight the importance of responsive inventory planning, omnichannel fulfillment and efficient last-mile delivery. The combination of physical stores and digital channels enables retailers to respond more effectively to demand while providing customers with multiple purchasing and delivery options.
The retailer also received a $994 million tariff refund, with management indicating that it continues to invest in lower prices. The development demonstrates how trade policy and import costs can influence retail pricing, sourcing decisions and supply chain planning.
With its annual sales growth outlook raised to 5%, the latest results underscore how coordinated merchandising, inventory management, digital fulfillment and supply chain execution can support retail growth.
