South Korea Expands US Energy Investment

by Jessica Jumaway

in Energy

South Korea and the United States are advancing discussions on a proposed $22.3 billion gas power project in Texas, which could support growing electricity demand from data centres and other energy-intensive industries.

The proposed facility would have a capacity of approximately 6.3 gigawatts and represents a potential step in expanding cross-border energy investment and strengthening the infrastructure supporting the digital economy.

The project is being considered as part of a broader trade agreement under which South Korea committed to substantial investment in the United States. Additional projects under consideration include potential nuclear power and liquefied natural gas developments.

South Korean authorities have clarified that negotiations on the Texas project are still ongoing and that no final investment decision has been made. Any agreement would also be subject to required procedures and approvals.

From a supply chain perspective, investments in reliable power generation can strengthen the infrastructure supporting data centres, advanced manufacturing, technology operations, and other high-demand industries. Greater energy capacity can also support long-term industrial growth and improve the resilience of regional infrastructure networks.
