The state government’s supply chain automation project was highlighted as a success case study at the Western Zonal Council (WZC) meeting held in Pune, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The initiative was praised for its efficiency and potential for replication in other states, according to an official statement.
As part of the project, approximately 2.5 million metric tonnes of grain are distributed annually from 350 warehouses to 17,000 fair price shops using technology-driven methods to minimize manual intervention. The system enhances transparency and efficiency in the public distribution system (PDS), ensuring food grains reach beneficiaries effectively.
The initiative employs GPS tracking, load sensors, geo-fencing, system integration, automatic alerts, and CCTV monitoring on transport vehicles to oversee grain movement. Additionally, 3,25,000 truck trips are tracked each year through centralized monitoring, securing last-mile delivery and reducing distribution delays.
The WZC standing committee selected one best practice from each participating region, including Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra, and the Union territories of Diu-Daman and Dadra-Nagar Haveli.
