The Port of Montreal has resumed full operations following a two-month disruption, which was resolved after an order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board. All activities are now back to normal.
The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) credited the recovery to the combined efforts of its teams and logistics partners, who worked through the holiday season to clear a significant backlog and stabilize operations.
Since resuming operations, port workers and partners have processed 52 container ships, moved nearly 197,985 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units), transported 137 freight cars of grain, and accommodated around 2,300 truck drivers daily across various terminals. Backlogs, including 13,350 TEUs and 28,000 feet of export freight cars, were cleared more quickly than anticipated.
The MPA highlighted that the swift resolution of the backlogs was crucial for restoring smooth supply chain operations at the port.
