For the fifteenth consecutive year, the Port of Baltimore’s six state-owned, public marine terminals have been awarded a top security assessment by the U.S. Coast Guard, under the management of the Maryland Port Administration.
The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Maryland conducts an annual inspection of the port to verify compliance with federal security regulations. The comprehensive review encompasses all security protocols and procedures at the Port of Baltimore’s Dundalk, Seagirt, North Locust Point, South Locust Point (which includes a cruise passenger terminal), Fairfield, and Masonville marine terminals. This evaluation also extends to the Maryland Port Administration’s facility security plan and its cybersecurity annex.
Over recent years, the Maryland Port Administration has enhanced security measures by implementing high-mast lighting, reinforced gate and fence line conditions, additional signage, and other physical security enhancements. The integration of heightened cybersecurity measures and access control initiatives, along with a closed-circuit television network, are believed to contribute significantly to the strength and effectiveness of the port’s security program.
Paul Wiedefeld, Maryland’s Transportation Secretary, emphasized the importance of maintaining a secure working environment for the thousands of individuals employed at the Port of Baltimore. He expressed gratitude towards the Maryland Port Administration team for prioritizing safety and security in their operations.
