PLDT Inc. and its mobile division, Smart Communications, are putting more money into advanced technology to tackle the growing problem of scams in the Philippines. Since 64% of transactions in the country are done on mobile devices, it has become a prime target for cybercriminals. To combat this issue, PLDT is focusing on three main strategies: using silent authentication to improve security over traditional one-time passwords (OTPs), verifying device locations to detect fraud, and strengthening Know Your Customer (KYC) processes. These efforts are all aimed at making digital interactions safer, with more partnerships and new technologies planned for 2025.
