Malaysia and China are set to deepen collaboration in palm oil supply chains, technological innovation, and market expansion, according to Deputy Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin. The partnership aims to enhance industry advancements and broaden the application of palm oil in sectors such as food, personal care, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energy.
Speaking at the Malaysia-China 30 Chief Executive Officers Forum on Oils and Fats, Chan highlighted the Malaysian Palm Oil Board’s (MPOB) increasing cooperation with Chinese universities, research institutions, and enterprises. Joint efforts focus on developing more nutritious edible palm oil, healthier personal care products, and eco-friendly biofuels, ensuring these innovations reach the market efficiently.
The forum, organized by the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities in partnership with Beijing Heyirong Invest Group, provided a platform for industry leaders to exchange insights and strengthen cooperation in the oils and fats sector. Key participants included the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park, the Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE), and Shanghai Bairong Industrial Co Ltd.
Beijing Heyirong Invest Group, one of China’s largest palm oil importers, annually imports 300,000 tonnes of refined, bleached, and deodorized (RBD) palm olein and RBD palm stearin. Chan emphasized that Malaysia’s partnership with China’s food processing, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and renewable energy companies aims to accelerate the commercialization of high-value palm oil products, offering Chinese consumers superior-quality options.
Malaysia remains committed to supplying Chinese enterprises with a stable and high-quality palm oil supply. The government seeks to enhance long-term procurement strategies and brand promotion in China’s consumer market, further expanding the use of palm oil products.
Malaysia’s exports of palm oil and palm-based products to China reached RM10.57 billion in 2024. Notably, palm kernel oil exports rose by 40%, primarily supporting China’s oleochemical industry for surfactant production. Chan acknowledged China’s continued support for Malaysia’s palm oil industry and emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration.
