A five‑day maritime security and safety training programme was successfully delivered in Doha, Qatar, focused on strengthening operational capabilities for senior personnel from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). The event, which took place in February 2025, provided targeted upskilling in areas critical to maritime safety, risk management and security operations.
The intensive course was designed to enhance expertise in key aspects of maritime security including strategic security planning, emergency response, crisis management, threat assessment and counter‑piracy practices — topics that are increasingly vital as maritime agencies confront complex security challenges across coastal and offshore environments.
Led by seasoned industry practitioners, the programme blended interactive sessions, case studies, expert presentations and collaborative discussions to give participants practical insights into global best practices in maritime risk mitigation and safety operations. The hands‑on format aimed to improve participants’ ability to apply learned frameworks and strategic thinking directly to real‑world challenges.
Organisers highlighted that such capacity‑building initiatives support broader efforts to strengthen maritime governance, enhance port and coastal security, and promote safer navigation — all of which have significant implications for international shipping, logistics networks, and trade flows.
Industry observers note that investing in maritime security training not only fosters stronger institutional capabilities at national level but also contributes to regional cooperation and alignment with global safety standards, which can improve confidence among trading partners and carriers.
