Latin America is emerging as a major growth engine for agricultural input trade, helping drive Chinese crop protection exports to record levels in the second quarter of 2026.
Chinese exports of formulated crop protection products reached US$3.13 billion in Q2, up 22% year on year, while shipment volumes increased 16.3% to 1.05 million metric tons. Average export prices also rose 4.9%, indicating stronger market demand alongside higher trade volumes.
Latin America accounted for 42% of China’s crop protection exports during the quarter, with demand expanding across major agricultural markets including Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Mexico.
The growth points to a broader strengthening of agricultural supply chains as farmers and distributors replenish inventories and prepare for continued production needs across the region.
Herbicides led the expansion, representing nearly two-thirds of export value and benefiting from improving prices and stronger shipment volumes.
The latest figures highlight Latin America’s growing influence on global agricultural trade, while stronger demand is encouraging suppliers to adjust production, inventory and distribution strategies across international markets.
