Kering is delighted to announce the successful completion of the first phase of its new global logistics hub in Trecate, Northern Italy. The initial portion of the facility has been operational since March 2020, and the second section, spanning over 100,000 square meters, is slated to commence operations by the end of the second quarter of 2021.
Constructed in a remarkably short time, this new global logistics hub, covering more than 162,000 square meters (equivalent to 20 rugby fields), boasts cutting-edge technology and automation. It emphasizes scalability, innovative sustainability practices, and features designed to enhance employee well-being.
The hub is poised to meet the demands of regional warehouses, retail stores, wholesalers, and global e-commerce operations. It will significantly augment the Group’s shipping capabilities (up to 80 million pieces per year) and storage capacity (up to 20 million pieces). Additionally, it will reduce lead times by 50%, enhancing the efficiency of deliveries and fostering closer collaboration with the Group’s brands.
Presently, over 250 individuals are employed at the facility, with plans to increase the workforce to approximately 900 by the end of 2022. The site’s operations are overseen by XPO Logistics, a longstanding logistics partner of Kering, responsible for on-site warehouse operations.
Jean-François Palus, Kering Managing Director, remarked, “We are transforming our worldwide logistics network in Europe, America, and Asia to become fully omnichannel, to markedly increase the speed of deliveries to the benefits of our Houses and their clients. This brand new facility is another testament to Kering’s commitment to Italy: the Group is continuing to invest in the country, not only in terms of its artisanal and managerial capabilities but also its logistics competencies and know-how.”
The Trecate plant is set to house one of Europe’s most extensive rooftop solar systems. The photovoltaic panels will generate a total of 12.7 MWp upon the building’s completion, resulting in an estimated annual reduction of 7,500 tons of CO2 emissions. The site will also become the first industrial complex in Italy to produce more energy than it consumes. Surplus electricity will be fed into Italy’s power distribution grid, serving Kering stores and corporate offices throughout the country.
Both the shell and core warehouses and the offices are pursuing LEED certification, with expectations of achieving a Platinum rating, making it the first LEED Platinum certified warehouse in Europe. Furthermore, the offices are seeking WELL certification to ensure an optimal work environment for all employees, with the objective of achieving a Gold rating.
Lastly, during the peak of the pandemic in 2020, Kering facilitated the delivery of over 20 million items of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), including masks and sanitizing gels, to the Group’s corporate offices and stores worldwide.
