Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), in collaboration with Plug and Play, has announced its second Innovation Challenge, inviting startups, academic institutions, and innovators to develop advanced supply chain mapping technologies. The initiative aims to bolster supply chain resilience and transparency, particularly as the company advances its electrification efforts.
The challenge seeks solutions that enhance the accuracy of supply chain traceability, risk mapping, and visibility from Tier 1 suppliers to raw material extraction. Potential technologies include artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and predictive modeling. Selected participants will collaborate with JLR experts to develop a proof of concept, with the possibility of scaling the solution for commercial application.
Paulina Chmielarz, Digital & Innovation Director of Industrial Operations at JLR, emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies for supply chain enhancement. She stated, “The future of supply chains is autonomous, intelligent, and data-driven. At JLR, we’re harnessing the power of AI, machine learning, and real-time analytics to unlock unprecedented visibility and resilience.”
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, JLR has streamlined its supply chains, working closely with suppliers to improve planning and parts visibility, thereby safeguarding the company from disruptions. As JLR develops its next-generation electric vehicles and continues to establish new global supply networks, it is looking to further strengthen supply chain resilience.
The Innovation Challenge is open for applications until April 25, 2025. Key dates include the opening of applications on March 19, 2025, the closing on April 25, 2025, and a pitch day event scheduled for July 3, 2025. This initiative aligns with JLR’s Reimagine strategy, which aims to deliver a sustainability-rich vision of modern luxury by design. The company is transforming its business with the goal of becoming carbon net-zero across its supply chain, products, and operations by 2039. Electrification is central to this strategy, with plans for each of the Range Rover, Discovery, and Defender collections to have a pure electric model before the end of the decade, while Jaguar will become entirely electric.
By engaging with external innovators, JLR aims to address challenges such as forced labor prevention, deforestation, and sustainability within its supply chains. The company believes that global collaboration and collective creativity can solve the challenges of tomorrow and make sustainable modern luxury a reality.
This challenge represents an opportunity for startups and innovators to showcase their technologies and potentially impact the future of the automotive industry. Kieran Borrett, Director of Plug and Play UK, commented, “At Plug and Play, we believe that fostering collaboration between established industry leaders and pioneering startups drives meaningful advancements. This challenge represents an incredible opportunity for startups to showcase their technologies and make an impact on the future of our planet and its communities.”
Through this initiative, JLR continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the development of resilient supply chains in the evolving automotive landscape.
