The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has announced the recipients of its Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Community Grants, supporting initiatives across the state aimed at enhancing public health. These grants, totaling $1.2 million, have been awarded to 17 community organizations dedicated to tackling various health challenges through innovative programs.
KDHE’s grant program focuses on empowering local communities to develop and implement strategies that promote chronic disease prevention and management. Each grantee will utilize the funds to launch initiatives tailored to their community’s specific needs, addressing issues such as diabetes prevention, heart disease awareness, and overall wellness promotion.
“This initiative underscores KDHE’s commitment to fostering community-driven solutions that improve health outcomes statewide,” stated Dr. Lee Norman, Secretary of KDHE. “By supporting these diverse projects, we aim to create sustainable impacts and empower Kansans to lead healthier lives.”
The funded projects encompass a range of approaches, from expanding access to preventive screenings and educational workshops to implementing lifestyle intervention programs that encourage healthier habits. Each initiative is designed to engage community members actively, ensuring that the interventions are both relevant and effective in addressing local health disparities.
“We are thrilled to receive this grant from KDHE, which will enable us to expand our efforts in educating families about nutrition and physical activity,” remarked Sarah Johnson, Executive Director of Healthy Living Community Foundation, one of the grant recipients. “This funding will allow us to reach more individuals and make a meaningful impact on chronic disease prevention in our community.”
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Community Grants are part of KDHE’s broader strategy to build healthier communities through collaborative partnerships and evidence-based interventions. By investing in grassroots initiatives, KDHE aims to reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases and improve overall public health outcomes across Kansas.
