Comau has unveiled its new S-Family of small industrial robots at the recent Automate event, North America’s prominent automation show.
The first two high-speed robots in this series, designed for payloads of 13 kg and up to 18 kg, are targeted for assembly, arc welding, and handling applications where precision, repeatability, and speed are essential.
These robots are known for their high performance and distinctive red design, reflecting Comau’s commitment to making automation more accessible to various industries beyond the automotive sector.
The robots are compact, robust, and versatile, capable of accessing small and tight areas that are typically challenging for other robots. They are also energy-efficient, certified according to Fraunhofer procedure instructions, helping companies achieve higher production quality and better performance while reducing energy consumption and costs.
S-Family robots are suitable for applications that require high accuracy and speed, offering full protection from elements like water, dust, and other contaminants. Their IP68 hollow-wrist design allows electrical and auxiliary cabling to run inside the wrist, enhancing agility and minimizing the risk of damage.
Additionally, these robots feature fully integrated arc and gigabit dressings, which eliminate layout constraints, simplify assembly and installation, ensure faster response times, and significantly reduce cable kinking, breakage, and maintenance costs.
The S-Family is versatile, supporting applications in welding, handling, foundry, automotive, battery manufacturing, food and beverage, and general assembly. The robots can be mounted on the floor, wall, or ceiling, optimizing space usage without compromising performance.

The S-Family robots have been tested and certified for energy efficiency according to Fraunhofer procedures and are available in two different payload configurations (13 and 18 kg) with a 1700 mm reach and a repeatability of ±0.03mm.
