China’s foreign trade reached 34.78 trillion yuan ($5.13 trillion) in the first eight months of 2026, up 17.6% year-on-year. Exports rose 14.6%, while imports grew 22%, highlighting strong demand across global supply chains.
Technology and advanced manufacturing are becoming major growth drivers. Integrated circuit exports jumped 103.9%, while high-tech product exports increased 42.9%. Mechanical and electrical product exports also rose 21.9%, supported by continued manufacturing upgrades and AI-related demand.
The stronger import growth also reflects rising demand for components, semiconductors, energy resources, and other inputs, while trade expanded with 112 countries and regions.
The results highlight China’s growing role in global manufacturing and supply networks, with technology investment, industrial upgrading, and expanding market demand supporting continued trade growth.
