The Arlington City Council recently approved an extension for E-Space, a telecommunications and satellite manufacturing company, to finalize a lease for its planned North American headquarters near Arlington Municipal Airport. The new deadline has been set for April 30, 2025, after the company was unable to meet the initial lease agreement deadline of August 29. City officials noted that E-Space has been actively negotiating for its preferred site in a highly competitive industrial real estate market. The proposed headquarters is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the region, including the creation of 3,355 high-paying jobs over the next three decades.
In April, the city entered into a public-private partnership with E-Space to develop a 750,000-square-foot facility at the Arlington Municipal Airport, which is anticipated to generate 2,000 new jobs within the next ten years. E-Space specializes in satellite technology aimed at enhancing Internet of Things (IoT) communications, connecting various devices and networks. Currently, the company employs staff at its California and Massachusetts locations. Due to the leasing delay, Arlington will provide additional time for E-Space to meet several milestones required by the agreement, including the construction of a 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, a 40,000-square-foot hangar, and other infrastructure.
The Arlington Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) has committed up to $50 million to support the project, with the city leasing the ground for the development. The AEDC will own the improvements and lease them to E-Space for 30 years, with options to renew. E-Space will also receive hiring grants for employing Arlington residents and a 50% rebate on eligible personal property.
E-Space is required to meet specific job creation targets, including 400 positions with an average salary of $95,000, to qualify for full funding under the agreement. The company is also expected to collaborate with the local community, including participation in philanthropic and workforce development programs.
Discussions are underway between E-Space and the University of Texas at Arlington to explore potential collaboration opportunities, particularly in fields like mechanical and electrical engineering, aviation, and aerospace.
