A new sustainability playbook and microsite have been introduced to assist logistics players in Singapore who are interested in adopting environmentally friendly practices.
Launched jointly by the Singapore Logistics Association (SLA) and Enterprise Singapore on Wednesday (Feb 21), these initiatives aim to support logistics companies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), in developing green capabilities.
The sustainability playbook, a component of the Enterprise Sustainability Programme’s series of sustainability playbooks, offers a step-by-step guide for logistics players to initiate their sustainability strategies. It provides a compilation of relevant resources that companies can utilize for implementing and maintaining green initiatives, including toolkits, training programs, financial assistance, and sustainability standards. The playbook covers various key areas such as greenhouse gas emissions management, energy conservation, waste packaging management, employee health and safety, and data security.
In addition to the playbook, a microsite called the Green Supply Chain Knowledge Hub complements these efforts by outlining practical steps that companies can take to begin their green journeys.
Minister of State for Trade and Industry Alvin Tan, speaking at the launch event, emphasized that these new resources will enable Singapore’s logistics sector to better understand emerging sustainability trends and develop strategies to capitalize on them.
According to Patrick Wong, managing director of logistics company GoGoX, there is growing pressure on logistics firms within the supply chain to adopt eco-friendly practices and reduce carbon emissions. This urgency stems from the expectations of major clients and the need to remain competitive in the industry.
Dave Ng, chairman of SLA, highlighted that the playbook and microsite will be particularly beneficial for SMEs, addressing gaps in their understanding of sustainability approaches and providing practical guidance tailored to the logistics sector.
The launch of these initiatives aligns with SLA’s broader Vision 2027 five-year roadmap, unveiled in October last year.
