The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) is stepping up its delivery services by adding more vehicles to its fleet, focusing especially on making last-mile deliveries more affordable. They have purchased 22 new trucks, which include 18 six-wheeler and four ten-wheeler vehicles, to improve delivery across the country.
Postmaster General Luis Carlos mentioned that these new trucks are intended to enhance their delivery services and draw in more business clients who can benefit from PHLPost’s logistics services. He pointed out that the organization is dedicated to changing the way traditional mail is delivered by offering a full range of logistics services, especially as online shopping continues to grow.
PHLPost isn’t just looking to support businesses; they’re also teaming up with the Department of Agriculture to help farmers transport their goods in a more affordable way. This partnership aims to make it easier to move agricultural products, like seeds and fertilizers, to remote areas that don’t have easy access to major markets. As part of this effort, Carlos mentioned the launch of “Kadiwa pop-up stores” in selected post offices to help provide affordable food options for consumers.
To make delivery operations more efficient, PHLPost is taking steps to cut down on fuel costs for their trucks. By renegotiating fuel contracts, they’ve managed to lower fuel prices from PHP 107 to PHP 67 per liter, which is almost a 60% drop. They’ve also introduced fleet cards connected to each vehicle’s license plate to track fuel use and spending in real-time, making their services more sustainable.
These actions are part of a larger plan by PHLPost to modernize its services. The “Postal Trinity” program includes creating local postal stations throughout the country to improve last-mile delivery, rolling out a new seven-digit alphanumeric ZIP code system for better addressing, and installing systems for real-time tracking of mail operations.
With these improvements, PHLPost is working to strengthen its role in the logistics market, especially for last-mile parcel deliveries, and to meet the changing needs of the digital economy.
