Morocco has ramped up its blueberry exports to Southeast Asia, with the 2023/24 season seeing a good number of shipments to Singapore and Malaysia. This year, 610 tons were sent to these countries, matching last year’s totals. The new 2024/25 season started off well with 55 tons shipped in December, showing a positive trend. Recent checks in Singapore in February 2025 indicate that Moroccan blueberries are continuing to gain popularity.
In the 2023/24 season, imports of Moroccan blueberries in Malaysia jumped by 50%, bringing the total to 288 tons compared to the previous year. On the other hand, shipments to Singapore dropped by 13% to 322 tons. Even with this slight decrease, both countries have shown an overall increase in blueberry imports, creating good opportunities for Moroccan exporters.
During the 2023/24 season, Singapore’s blueberry imports rose by 16%, while Malaysia’s imports surged by 73%. In these markets, Morocco has become the third-largest supplier to Malaysia and the fourth-largest to Singapore, following China, South Africa, and Peru.
Moroccan blueberry exports to Southeast Asia are available from December to June, with the busiest months being March to May. Other major suppliers like Spain, the Netherlands, Peru, and China also compete during this time, and China has increased its blueberry exports to both Singapore and Malaysia, raising competition.
Despite the growing competition, Moroccan exports performed well in the 2023/24 season. To keep this positive trend going in the current season, exporters may need to focus on the quality of their blueberries to meet customer expectations and stand out from the competition.
The increasing demand for blueberries in Southeast Asia is driven by a growing middle class and changing food preferences. This trend creates exciting opportunities for Moroccan exporters looking to strengthen their presence in these expanding markets.
