Egypt has activated the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) customs transit system, marking a major step toward faster cross-border trade and more efficient regional supply chains. The move introduces a single customs transit document and financial guarantee for sealed cargo, reducing border inspections, administrative procedures, and transit costs.
The rollout is supported by the launch of eight integrated logistics corridors connecting key seaports, dry ports, logistics hubs, and industrial, agricultural, and mining regions across the country. These new corridors are designed to improve domestic freight movement while strengthening links between the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and the Suez Canal.
Egypt also confirmed that transit goods and related transit services will be exempt from value-added tax (VAT), further enhancing the country’s attractiveness as a regional logistics and trade hub.
The expanded logistics network is expected to improve connectivity with neighboring markets, supporting smoother trade flows between Africa, the Middle East, and Europe while reinforcing supply chain efficiency across the region.
