China is advancing a 26,000-kilometre outer ring highway network designed to improve freight movement, strengthen border connectivity, and enhance the country’s transportation infrastructure.
The project, part of the country’s 2026–2030 development plan, will connect border highways with coastal routes, creating an integrated transportation corridor that links inland regions, border crossings, and major seaports. Planned road construction and upgrades will also improve capacity, close missing links, and increase resilience along key freight routes.
By connecting more than 100 border ports and major seaports, the expanded highway network is expected to improve domestic logistics efficiency, strengthen multimodal transportation, and enhance connections with international trade corridors, including rail and maritime networks.
The infrastructure investment is also expected to support regional economic development, improve supply chain resilience, and create more efficient logistics routes for the movement of goods across China and neighboring markets.
