Japanese Fashion Retailer Enhances Order Sortation Process

United Arrows, a prominent fashion retail brand in Japan, has recently implemented a mobile robot-based sorting system provided by LiBiao Robotics, leading to notable improvements in efficiency at its Tokyo distribution center.

Established in 1989, United Arrows has garnered a loyal customer base in Japan with its stylish range of clothing for men, women, and children. With nearly 300 outlets and a growing online presence, the company has experienced significant success over the years.

The Tokyo distribution hub, one of United Arrows’ key facilities, supports the brand’s multi-channel operations in Japan. It processes replenishment stock for next-day delivery to stores and fulfills online orders, ensuring prompt delivery to customers who prefer shopping via the company’s website.

To meet the demands of its retail and online customers, United Arrows relies on efficient intralogistics processes and advanced technologies. After evaluating various order sortation solutions, the company opted for LiBiao’s ‘T-Sort’ system. This system utilizes LiBiao’s autonomous mobile robots, known as ‘Mini Yellow,’ guided by integrated control software on a raised platform within the sorting zone.

Previously, warehouse personnel had to manually scan each item and verify details against the order information. With the introduction of the ‘T-Sort’ system, operatives simply place items onto the Mini Yellow robots at the induction station, and RFID scanning software directs the robots to the correct destination using the most efficient route.

The ‘T-Sort’ system offers easy installation and future-proof flexibility, allowing for seamless reconfiguration of the sorting process with minimal disruption to operations. Additional robots, induction points, and divert chutes can be added or removed based on order volume, ensuring optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

The implementation of the T-Sort system has been well-received by both management and staff at United Arrows. Yohei Uno, the company’s supply chain manager, praised the robots for streamlining the sorting process and transforming it into a more organized and controlled task.

In Spring 2024, LiBiao Robotics will showcase its range of autonomous sortation robots at two major European trade fairs, offering logistics professionals the opportunity to explore the benefits of LiBiao technology for their businesses at the company’s stand at LogiMAT in Stuttgart, Germany, from March 19th to 21st.
