The Organization of American States (OAS) has recently introduced the Women in the Chain Economy (WICE) network, aimed at fostering gender equality and empowerment within the supply chain industry across the Americas.

The WICE network, an initiative spearheaded by OAS, seeks to address the underrepresentation of women in key roles within the supply chain sector. By providing a platform for networking, mentorship, and advocacy, WICE aims to empower women professionals, offering them opportunities to advance their careers and contribute more effectively to the industry.

The launch event, held virtually, featured discussions on the challenges faced by women in the supply chain field, including barriers to career progression and gender biases. Participants highlighted the importance of initiatives like WICE in promoting diversity and inclusivity within the sector.

According to OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, the establishment of WICE reflects the organization’s commitment to promoting gender equality and supporting women’s economic empowerment. He emphasized that empowering women in supply chain management not only enhances individual careers but also contributes to economic growth and social development across the region.

The WICE network is expected to collaborate closely with governments, private sector entities, and civil society organizations to implement initiatives that promote women’s leadership and equal opportunities in the supply chain industry. By fostering an environment of inclusivity and support, WICE aims to create lasting impacts on the professional lives of women in the Americas.

The launch of WICE has garnered positive responses from various stakeholders, who have expressed optimism about the network’s potential to drive meaningful change in the traditionally male-dominated supply chain sector. Moving forward, OAS plans to expand the reach and impact of WICE, encouraging more women to pursue careers in supply chain management and contributing to a more equitable and diverse workforce across the Americas.
