Vietnam’s imports from New Zealand saw a 47.9% increase in January, reaching approximately US$61.26 million, while export earnings declined by 14.8% to US$61.05 million.
Vietnam exported 11 key commodities to New Zealand, with phones and components leading at US$21.4 million, followed by computers and electronic products at US$6.4 million, garments and textiles at US$6.26 million, and footwear at US$4.27 million. These four categories accounted for 62% of total export value.
In the agricultural sector, Vietnam shipped cashew nuts worth US$2.17 million, seafood at US$1.53 million, timber and wood products at US$1.69 million, and coffee at US$0.16 million.
On the import side, milk and dairy products were the most imported items, reaching US$39.7 million, a 73% increase compared to January 2024. Other significant imports included fruit and vegetables, timber and wood products, and iron and steel.
For the full year, Vietnam and New Zealand recorded a total trade turnover of US$1.29 billion, reflecting a 2.8% decline from 2023. While Vietnam’s exports to New Zealand increased by 5.8% to US$686 million, imports from New Zealand fell by 11% to US$604 million.
