Vietnam International Sourcing Event to Host Latin American Buyers in HCM City

HCM CITY — The Vietnam International Sourcing exhibition, set to take place at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center in District 7 from June 6 to 8, 2024, will feature leading distributors and retailers from Latin America among its participants. Organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the city’s People’s Committee, this event aims to showcase Vietnamese goods to the international market. The exhibition will welcome 500 businesses involved in the international supply chain across five key industries: food and beverages, garments and textiles, footwear and accessories, sportswear and equipment, and household goods and home décor.

It is anticipated to serve as a pivotal platform for fostering business connections and enhancing the export potential of Vietnamese products. Notable attendees from last year included Chile’s Falabella, the largest retailer in Latin America, which sourced sports equipment and apparel from Vietnamese suppliers. This year, Falabella plans to expand its procurement in Vietnam to include textiles, garments, footwear, household appliances, and electrical equipment. Coppel, a major Mexican department store chain, is also expected to continue its engagement, seeking diverse Vietnamese products for its extensive network of stores in Mexico and Argentina. The US-based Walmart Group has similarly identified Vietnam as a strategic sourcing location for a variety of products including textiles, garments, and home appliances.

Further, Venezuela’s Latiquim C.A Group is looking for long-term partnerships in Vietnam for the production of chemical products like sulfonic and phosphoric acid. The event not only highlights the robust trade relations between Vietnam and Latin America, which have seen significant growth over the past five years, but also underscores Vietnam’s role as a global manufacturing hub. The country’s trade with Latin America reached $20.6 billion last year, driven by complementary import and export commodity structures that facilitate ongoing business cooperation. Additionally, the success of the Ho Chi Minh Export Furniture Fair (HawaExpo 2024) in March, which attracted over 20,000 visitors and resulted in substantial contract signings, exemplifies the growing international interest in Vietnamese products.

As global buyers look to Vietnam for sourcing, local firms are encouraged to enhance their supply capabilities, ensure consistent product quality, and adhere to stringent environmental and social standards to secure more export orders. The Vietnam International Sourcing event promises to provide a new perspective to global wholesalers and retailers on the capacity of Vietnamese enterprises to deliver competitive and high-quality products, thereby embedding them further into the global production and supply chains.
