NEW YORK — Việt Nam will continue to work closely with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on the implementation of development programs and projects in the near future, according to the country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Đặng Hoàng Giang.
Speaking at a policy dialogue focused on repositioning development in the Asia-Pacific region, held by UNDP on January 15, Giang outlined Việt Nam’s long-term development vision to 2045. He highlighted the country’s socio-economic achievements in 2024 and underscored key priorities aimed at driving new growth and ensuring sustainable and inclusive development.
Việt Nam’s approach emphasizes the promotion of science, technology, and innovation, as well as advancing the transition towards a knowledge-based, greener, and more sustainable economy, while maintaining a focus on equity and social progress.
The dialogue was attended by a range of high-level participants, including the Administrator of UNDP, Achim Steiner, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific at UNDP, Kanni Wignaraja, Senior Economic Advisor at the World Bank Group, Philip Schellekens, as well as ambassadors and representatives from various countries’ UN missions in the region.
Participants from the UNDP, World Bank, and various countries exchanged views on emerging trends and challenges in the Asia-Pacific region’s development outlook. Discussions addressed national strategies for adapting to new challenges, including the green transition, digital transformation, and the application of science, technology, and artificial intelligence, while proposing ways to enhance cooperation between UNDP and countries in the region. — VNA/VNS
