in Global Trade

The Maharashtra Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has approved the Maharashtra Logistics Policy 2024, targeting a revenue generation of approximately ₹30,573 crore over the next five years. This policy, developed with input from the State Economic Advisory Council, envisions significant growth in the logistics sector and aims to create around 500,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Key objectives of the policy include reducing logistics costs by 4-5% from the current 14-15%, minimizing logistics time, implementing green initiatives to lower carbon emissions, and leveraging technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and intelligent logistics management systems.

The policy also emphasizes the development of green logistics parks, sustainable design, and modal shifts while seeking to attract both domestic and international investment to position Maharashtra as a major global logistics hub.

Significant projects under the policy include:

  • International Mega Logistics Hub: Set to be developed on 2,000 acres in the Navi Mumbai-Pune area, near the new international airport in Panvel. This hub will be linked to industrial estates in the region and has a provision of ₹1,500 crore.
  • Nagpur-Wardha National Mega Logistics Hub: To be established on 1,500 acres, connected to the Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg. This hub will also receive ₹1,500 crore in funding.
  • State Logistics Hubs: Five hubs will be developed on 500 acres each in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar-Jalna, Thane-Bhiwandi, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Pune-Purandar, and Palghar-Vadhavan, with a total provision of ₹2,500 crore.
  • Regional Hubs: To be set up on 300 acres each in Nanded-Deglur, Amravati-Badnera, Kolhapur-Ichalkaranji, Nashik-Sinnar, and Dhule-Shirpur, receiving a total of ₹1,500 crore.

Additionally, multi-purpose logistics parks will be established in urban areas such as Thane, Mumbai, and Pune. These parks will have a minimum built-up area of 20,000 square feet and require an investment of at least ₹5 crore. Small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) within and outside these parks will benefit from various financial and non-financial incentives.

The comprehensive logistics policy aims to enhance Maharashtra’s position as a leading logistics hub, driving economic growth and development throughout the state.
