Representatives from the University of Bolton showcased the institution’s advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) to the World Trade Organization (WTO).
A delegation from the university journeyed to the WTO headquarters in Geneva to present their work on this cutting-edge technology. Led by Dr. Celestine Iwendi, head of the newly-established Centre of Intelligence of Things, and Sam Johnson, head of the School of the Arts and Creative Technologies, the group met with WTO director-general Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
During the meeting, Dr. Iwendi outlined the university’s approach to AI development and proposed potential collaboration opportunities with the WTO. Dr. Bright Okogu also participated in discussions regarding AI’s impact on global trade.
The delegation extended an invitation to Dr. Okonjo-Iweala to attend the university’s 2024 graduation ceremony.
Dr. Okonjo-Iweala expressed a vision for the WTO focused on data and AI, with the Bolton team discussing potential contributions in shaping this vision. They highlighted the Centre’s role in providing insights into WTO policies.
Boluwatife Oyesola, International Student Community Coordinator, former Student Union President, and doctoral student, emphasized the readiness of University of Bolton students for an AI-driven future, which garnered interest from WTO representatives.
Boluwatife and Sam stressed Bolton’s dedication to preparing students for an AI-centric future, highlighting the university’s diverse community and integration of AI across disciplines, which intrigued WTO representatives.
Dr. Iwendi pledged comprehensive training opportunities, offering AI expertise through tailored courses and research.
